Employment Background Checks: A List of Benefits

This is possible because they believe that the law is tight enough to prevent criminal activities and the applicants are persons of high integrity. Though this has some practical elements, its application is limited.More often, things go the unexpected way. The importance of employment background checks is underscored by different things.

Most people take these checks for criminal history. In a study done in 2005, 2.3 of all companies experience coworker violence of between 0.6 to 8.2% for business with 250 and below employees. There was over 34.1% of cases of violence for firms with employees above 1000. Assaults accounted for more than 13% of workplace fatalities. No business would with that this happens in its environs. An employer has therefore to take mitigating measures against employing violent employees or those that have criminal tracks.

Protecting other employees and customers is another critical importance of background checking employees. There are people who have evil minds and can harm, kill or insult other employees. Keeping such character out of your employee team ensures that harmony reigns in the office. Part of this responsibility involves protecting clients. There is a case of a health service provider who has hired a home based caretaker for a 32-year-old woman. To start with, the person committed a financial crime. After realizing the patient had noted of the crime, the person though of how to conceal evidence and the unlucky woman was killed. Should they turn out to be dishonest individuals, unscreened employees are fatal to a business.

Protection of confidential information of the clients and company is the third reason firms value employment background checking. This is mostly important for employees who deal with confidential information regarding the client and the company such as health, finance, and security. There is a case of a VIP who hired an unchecked private guard. The problem with the guard was he was part of criminal network terrorizing the residents. The end of it was a doom when he was kidnapped and confidential information confiscated. The trustworthy of an employee should be background checked.

Another thing that has been established is that over 40% of resumes contain invalid information. There are those employees who intentionally declare false information in a bid to make their resume more attractive. An employment background checking helps a business to conform that the employee has the skills declared, has the academic certification posted and is who he/she claims to be.
